A noticeboard widget
One line of text, on everybody’s screen.
Naastenka is a noticeboard. Everyone in your group gets one line on a server you run, and the
widget shows whoever wrote last. Click it, type, done.
macOS 14 · iOS 17. The iPhone app is on its way to the App Store — the link will be here.
Live — go on, write something in it
Two places
The same note, wherever you look up.
The desktop widget and the home-screen widget are one widget, built from one set of source
files. Write on the Mac and the phone has it before you have put the Mac down.
Three things worth knowing
01 It never notifies you.
A noticeboard is looked at, not pushed. There are no notifications in Naastenka and there will not be any — nothing anybody writes can interrupt what you are doing. You find out the next time you glance at your screen, which is exactly where the note already is.
02 It talks to your server, not ours.
You point Naastenka at a machine you control and type the address in yourself. There is no account, no sign-up and nothing to discover: Sidekala runs no service, stores nothing and cannot read a single note. The app ships with no server address in it at all.
03 Everybody keeps their own line.
Writing your note never erases anyone else’s, only your own previous one. The widget shows whoever wrote last; swipe it to step back through the others, one person at a time. Nothing older than somebody’s latest line is kept anywhere.
A board
One server and one name.
Same address plus same namespace means the same group of people. Run two namespaces on one
machine and you have the flat and the family, side by side — each widget picks its own.
Sharing a board is a QR code, a naastenka://join link, and a check phrase the two
of you compare out loud. Whoever has the link has the board; there is no rendezvous server and
there will not be one.

Somewhere to leave a note.
No feed, no unread count, no one to follow. A line of text and the people who already know you.
